Global Internet Seminar - Tom Hua

It's been 2 years since Tom Hua came to Malaysia and it was a joy to hear that he's coming back this year for GIS. Am now listening to him on stage at Day 3 of GIS. It is still inspiring to hear him on stage even though I've heard him speak before.

If you have heard Tom speak on stage, you would have heard his life story and it really is one of the most inspiring stories I've heard. The first time I heard it back at World Internet Summit 2006, I was moved to tears and it only made sense for me to learn from him. He's really a master at what he teaches, no nonsense at all. Latest Amazon Associate Update

Alert! Alert!

Amazon just made a major announcement today. The gist of it is that direct linking to Amazon website via paid search will no longer qualify for referral fees with effect from May 1, 2009. So if you're running ads on Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and MSN AdCenter and linking it directly to Amazon using your associate link, Amazon will no longer pay commissions on these referrals.

So what does this mean to us? People like me who are lazy internet marketers. Well, the main thing is, we can no longer use the direct linking method. A redirect is also not allowed.

What do we do then? Simple answer will be to use a landing page and in that landing page insert your associate link to Amazon. Whether it's the product page or any other page relevant to the content of your landing page.

I suppose another way of doing this is to use a blog as a review site. In your review posts, you can insert your associate link to the product page in Amazon of the product which you are reviewing.

There's still another 3 weeks left with which we can all still apply the direct linking method so make the most out of it. Go all out. As long as the item is added to the shopping cart before May 1, you'll still be entitled to your referral commission. Just remember to pause all your campaigns come midnight on May 1.
